Online Poker Players Groove to Europe, in Europe When Chips Are On the Line
Montreal, Quebec (PRWEB) April 30, 2008 -- Everest Poker (www.everestpoker.com) announced today that, according to the results of a new survey, its European poker players' taste in music is as eclectic as their wide range of playing styles.
The survey was conducted all throughout April, when Everest Poker's European Event Coordinators asked 186 poker players from Austria, Spain, France, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Portugal and the Netherlands what their inspirational song would be during an important hand. Many poker players today use iPods or other music players to pump themselves up before they play. Like the sunglasses that some players use to shield their eyes and confuse opponents, the music player and headphones have also become staples of the poker felt over the past few years.
So which songs topped the list? A single from French hip-hop group IAM, perhaps? A Ska-punk track from Italian rock group Meganoidi? None of the above, actually. In fact, the results were fairly surprising, given that the players were from all across Europe, not the United States.
Top 5 tracks for European poker players:
1. Europe - The Final Countdown - 12% 2. One - U2 - 8% 3. Winner Takes It All - Abba - 6% 4. Eye Of The Tiger - Survivor - 4% 5. Livin' On A Prayer - Bon Jovi - 2%
Songs that just missed the cut, but still received a few votes were the Joker by the Steve Miller Band; Sweet Child O Mine by Guns N Roses; Heroes by David Bowie; and Queen's We Are The Champions.
"Thankfully Rick Astley was ignored by almost everybody," said Ed Pownall, Everest Poker European PR Manager. "It's not a surprise to see popular rock tunes dominate the list, and we did ask players of all ages to take the survey, but the fact that no song later than 1992 makes the top five is very interesting. The old adage 'they don't make 'em like they used to' seems to be very applicable - in the poker world anyway!"
